The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed rookie S Jarrod Harper and rookie DT Kevin Maurice, both workout participants in the team’s rookie minicamp, the club announced today. The Jaguars also released third-year S Akeem Davis and third-year DT Louis Nix.
Harper, 6-0, 210, attended West Virginia University and appeared in 51 games with 117 career tackles, including a career-high 71 tackles during his senior season in 2016. Harper also added five tackles for loss in 2016 and posted a career-high eight tackles on Sept. 24, 2016 vs. Brigham Young and Oct. 1, 2016 vs. Kansas State. Harper was a three-year, two-way starter for Head Coach Roy Devore at Mountain Ridge High School in his hometown of Frostburg, Md. As a senior in 2011, Harper registered 52 tackles, five tackles for loss, three INTs, five fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. Harper is one of six children and majored in criminology.
Maurice, 6-3, 300, attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and appeared in 31 career games, including 13 appearances as a senior in 2016. Maurice’s career totals include 71 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. As a senior in 2016, Maurice posted a career-high 39 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss. Maurice was active in community outreach efforts at Nebraska, volunteering his time with Uplifting Athletes, Husker Heroes, Husker Hotline, School is Cool Week, NFL Fuel Up to Play 60, and team hospital visits. He was twice named to the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship Teams for his outreach work. Maurice majored in management.
