Florida and head coach Jim McElwain have “mutually agreed to part ways” according to a press releasefrom the school.
They are said to still be working on the terms of a buyout.
Assistant coach Randy Shannon will serve as the interim head coach.
“We want to thank Coach McElwain for his efforts in leading the Gator football program,” said AD Scott Stricklin. “We are confident Coach Shannon will provide the proper guidance to the players and rest of staff during this time and we will begin a national search for the next head coach.”
In his 2 and a half years in Gainesville McElwain went 22-12. He was 3-4 this season.
